Sacrificial Anode

What is Sacrificial Anode?

When metal surfaces come into contact with electrolytes, the metal surfaces undergo an electrochemical reaction known as corrosion. Corrosion is a natural process of conversion where metal returns to its natural state with the oxidized surfaces, causing the metal to disintegrate and its structure to grow weak.

A sacrificial anode is a highly active metal that is used to prevent a less active material from corroding. It is made from a metal alloy with a more negative electrochemical potential than the metal it will be used to protect. The reaction occurs spontaneously when these anodes supply the protective current to the protected metal. The anodes are consumed in the process. Over time, these anodes will need to be replaced for the protection to be maintained.

Our wide range of sacrificial anode products are valued for their great quality in the field of cathodic protection, and are used in pipelines, buildings, vessels and more.
